Swarachakra Gujarati - A touch screen keyboard
Long-term Usability Evaluation
Swarachakra Gujarati (સ્વરચક્ર ગુજરાતી) is a touch-screen mobile keyboard (Android OS) that enable user to type in native gujatati language.
Design of the keyboard enable user to type complex devanagari scripts that made of 47 primary characters including 14 vowels and 33 consonants.
Use of Keyboard
The final design of keybaord uses a logically ordered alphabets, based on the structure of Gujarati script. It displays the consonants sequenced according to the script, phonetically grouped and arranged in a grid, similar to those found in most school textbooks.
Efficiany & Usability Evaluation
A 4 weeks longatidual research study was conducted, to measure efficiany of the keyboard. In this study we compare typing speed with Swarchakra in compare to others keyboards available on google playstore
The keyboard was developed as part of text input system research at the IDID group of Industrial Design Center (IDC), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Along with Gujarati language, it also available in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Konkani and Tamil.
